Fairfax County Police A Reston man was charged with a Felony DUI — at least his fifth offense in the last five years — on Tuesday after he crashed his car into a creek and walked away from the scene, the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office says.

Deputies were called to the scene at Algonkian Parkway and
Rutherford Circle in Sterling close to midnight.

A witness told officials male driver exited the vehicle andwalked away from the scene towards a footpath.

The driver was later located and identified as Marc A. Dixon, 31, of Reston.

Dixon was arrested and charged with misdemeanor hit and run and Felony DUI. Dixon has been charged with multiple DUI in the last five years, according to LCSO. He is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without bond.

In 2014, Dixon was arrested for driving his car backwards down Rugby Road in Fairfax. During that arrest, Dixon provided false information as well as kicked the door and window of the police vehicle he was in, Fairfax County Police said.

In that incident, Dixon was charged with DUI (fourth offense), refusing breath test, fraudulent information to police, destruction of county property, driving while suspended (DUI related) and improper backing on the highway.

Crash on Wiehle/Credit: FCPDAfter a car crash with injuries on Wiehle Avenue earlier this week, many Reston Now readers chimed in that “something needs to be done” about the stretch of Wiehle from Baron Cameron Avenue to Sunset Hills Road.

The road is on a hill in that section and features a slight blind curve. Monday’s crash occurred at Wiehle and Inlet Court. That intersection was the site of nine crashes in 2015, according to Fairfax County Police. It was the second crash at the intersection in 2016.

A pedestrian was hit and killed by a driver at Wiehle and Chestnut Grove last October, one of three car-vs.-pedestrian incidents in 2015, records show. The woman killed in that crash was crossing Wiehle at dawn outside of a crosswalk.

FCPD points to several intersections as trouble spots on Wiehle. Since the start of 2015, there have been 20 collisions at Wiehle and North Shore Drive. The busy intersection at Baron Cameron has had 17 crashes in that time frame.

There have been 12 crashes at the intersection at Sunset Hills since the start of 2015, FCPD records show. That area continues to be a trouble spot, with the W&OD Trail also crossing Wiehle there. Access to the Silver Line station at Wiehle-Reston East and egress from Fairfax County Fire Rescue Station 25 also complicate things at that intersection.

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation plans a pedestrian bridge to take the W&OD over Wiehle. The $10 million bridge likely won’t be built until 2021, however.

Meanwhile, while it seems Wiehle is an increasingly dangerous road, FCPD spokesman Officer Don Gotthardt points out that incidents are actually down in 2016.

There were 53 collisions on Wiehle in 2015. With a little over three months left to go in 2016, there have been 25 recorded by police. Gotthardt said the reasons for the decline were unknown.

Overall, there have been 78 collisions recorded since the start of 2015, though, which does it make Wiehle a trouble spot. What do you think should be done to make it safer? Tell us in the comments below.

Repaired wall at Terrraset ES

It was a week ago – on the first day of the 2016-17 school year — that a passenger van crashed into a wall of Terraset Elementary School.

The crash damaged the wall outside the school’s new art room. There were no serious injuries.

Fairfax County Police said on Monday that the driver of the van — who was carrying children to afterschool care — may still be charged. No charges have been filed so far, and police have not identified the 55-year-old driver.

Crash at Terraset ESOver the weekend, crews worked to replace bricks and make other repairs to the hole in wall.

Last Tuesday was the first day in the fully renovated school after a more than two-year construction project.

Terraset Principal Lindsay Trout said the building suffered no structural damage after the crash.

A van carrying children to after-school care crashed into the side of Terraset Elementary School on Tuesday, narrowly missing youngsters leaving the school at dismissal.

The crash occurred about 3:45 p.m. as the school was dismissing students on the first day of the 2016-17 school year.

The commuter van driver apparently lost control of the van or lost braking ability, careening into the brick wall from the school’s bus lane. The van’s nose went through the wall and into the school’s kiln room.

“It sounded like an explosion,” said Terraset parent Peter Crowe, who was at the school to pick up his daughter.

Tuesday was Terraset students’ first day at the completely renovated school. The school, built in 1977, recently finished a multi-year, multimillion renovation project.

The van driver was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The three young children riding in the van were also evaluated by paramedics but appeared uninjured.

Fairfax County Police The Reston teen who was injured in a motorbike accident at Reston Parkway and Wiehle Avenue on Thursday has died from his injuries.

The driver of the motorbike, Sean Logan, a 10th grader at Herndon High School, was injured when attempting to make a left turn onto Wiehle Avenue about 3:51 p.m. on Thursday, police said.

“[He] was kind, good-natured, and an excellent student,” Herndon High School Principal William Bates said of the teen in an email to HHS families. “He will be greatly missed.”

In Thursday’s accident, two SUVs — an Acura MDX and a Lexus GX470 — were headed southbound on Reston Parkway and had the right of way, said Fairfax County Police public information officer Bud Walker.

The teen made the left turn, but then was struck by the Acura, which was in the left lane. The Acura then struck the Lexus.

Neither driver was ticketed and neither speed nor alcohol was a factor, said Walker.

Witnesses said the teen’s bike — which police describe as a “pit bike” or minibike — was on fire and he flew about eight feet in the air after the collision. They also said bystanders administered CPR until rescue crews arrived.

Principal Bates said school counselors and members of the FCPS Crisis Response Team will be available to meet with any students and staff who need support in dealing with the news of the teen’s death.

Fairfax County Police

A four-car crash closed the southbound lanes of the Fairfax County Parkway at Sunrise Valley Drive for more than 60 minutes during Friday rush hour.

Police said they did not yet know whether weather was a factor in the crash. Roads around Reston were slippery Friday morning after several inches of snow fell in the area Thursday night.

Officers were on the scene from about 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., when all lanes were reopened.

Two people were reportedly taken to the hospital, but the injuries appeared non life threatening, police said.
