Fairfax County Police A Herndon man who was found with more than 600,000 child pornography images on his computer will face jail time.

A Fairfax County circuit court jury last week  found Adrantes Bruzual, 34, of Herndon guilty, and sentenced him to 12 years in prison with a $4,000 fine, WTOP reports.

In February 2014, a Fairfax County Police detective who was monitoring a file sharing network for people trading child porn, discovered an Internet Protocol (IP) address within Fairfax County.

After confirming the files contained child pornography, detectives traced the address of the IP to a home on Missouri Avenue in Herndon.

Police executed a search warrant and took two computer towers and two monitors from Bruzual’s basement bedroom. A forensic search found several hard drives, containing over 600,00 images of child porn.

Bruzual was charged with, and later indicted on, 20 counts of child pornography. In his trial, Bruzual testified that other people used the computers found in his room. He said he had no idea the images were on the computers.

Escape Room/Ravenchase AdventuresHerndon is getting its own escape room.

If that concept is new to you, here’s what it involves. Escape rooms are interactive, team-building activities where groups of people are locked in a room with others and have to use elements of the room to solve a series of puzzles, find clues, and escape the room within a set time limit.

So now that you know, here is what to know. Richmond-based Ravenchase Adventures is opening its second Virginia location at Herndon’s K-Mart Shopping Center (404-406 Elden Street).

Co-owner Omer Aru says Escape Room Herndon, which hopes to open by late April, will be 4,000 square feet with several different rooms. Ravenchase’s rooms in Richmond, for example have themes such as a science lab, a pirate ship, a tomb, “The Matrix,” and more. Each room holds its own clues and adventures, Aru said.

Players have 60 minutes to escape.

“Most of the time, the idea is to escape but not to be scared,” said Aru. “Think ‘Indiana Jones’ and not ‘The Saw.’ “

Escape Room Herndon rooms are designed for 4 to 12 players at a time. Most games cost $25, corporate packages available, Aru said.

Perils of the Lost Jungle at Woody's

Sunday was the final day for Herndon’s Woody’s Golf Range.

The driving range and the Perils of the Lost Jungle miniature golf course had been a recreational fixture in the area since 1980.

Owner Woody FitzHugh, a former PGA Tour player, announced last spring that he would close Nov. 1.

Woody’s had this to say on its Facebook page Sunday:

Final morning opening the range for our wonderful customers. It has been a pleasure and a blessing to serve you and your families for the past 35 years. Thank you all for coming and hitting balls, sharing stories and allowing us to be and share a small part of your lives.

Thank you for helping us to create a community of fellowship that was never just about golf but about people. We have many precious memories because of you. Please continue to check this page for our upcoming endeavors. Thank you, and may God richly bless you and your families.

FitzHugh told the Fairfax Times in April that traffic and construction near the entrance to Woody’s on Route 7 had an impact on business the last few years.

The 30 acres that housed Woody’s has been sold to a residential developer, who plans single-family homes on the site. Look for construction to begin early next year.

FitzHugh says the money from that deal will now enable him to build a new miniature golf course, location to be named later. He will likely save his collection of animatronic animals and other theatrical set pieces from Woody’s to use at the new location.

Giedre Ruseckaite/Credit: FCPDA woman who assisted a sex trafficker in prostituting young girls in Reston and Herndon hotels was sentenced to 10 years in prison by a federal judge on Friday.

Giedre Ruseckaite, 24, a Lithuanian citizen who had been living in Nevada, pled guilty to sex trafficking of a child in June.

According to court documents, Ruseckaite was the girlfriend and trusted assistant of Lenny Paul “2 Much” Haskins, 34, of Las Vegas, who was sentenced in May to 40 years in prison for sex trafficking of a child.

The charges stemmed from an incident in summer 2014, when authorities said Ruseckaite assisted Haskins in sex trafficking and prostituting two girls, ages 15 and 17. Haskins met the girls, runaways from foster care, in California. He instructed them to take a bus to Herndon from the purposes of being prostituted there, officials said.

Once he recruited them, Haskins also performed sex acts with the victims, officials said.

Haskins, who operated his ring in Northern Virginia for nearly a decade, frequently provided women and girls who were prostituted with various drugs, including marijuana, ecstasy, liquor, a drug known as “molly,” a drug concoction known as “lean,” and other controlled substances so that they could work longer without sleep, U.S. Justice Department documents said.

Even after Haskins was jailed, he continued to run his sex trafficking business from inside, officials said. With the assistance of Ruseckaite, proceeds from the sex trafficking conspiracy were forwarded to Haskins in jail so that he could purchase items and make telephone calls. Because jail calls are monitored, Haskins would give instructions via code words.

Authorities said Ruseckaite helped Haskins operate his venture in several ways, including assisting in the rental of hotel rooms where victims were prostituted; assisting in the collection of prostitution proceeds from victims; transporting victims; purchasing and distributing condoms to victims; advising the victims on how to perform sex acts; and assisting in the creation and posting of prostitution advertisements on Internet websites.

When Ruseckaite was arrested last spring, she was with her 3-year-old son at the Crowne Plaza Herndon on Elden Street. She was charged by Fairfax County Police with child neglect, prostitution and keeping a bawdy place.

This case was investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office with substantial assistance from the Fairfax County Police Department and the Herndon Police Department.

Innovation Center South/Fairfax County

Metro’s Silver Line will take a big step toward the future on Monday when Fairfax County Officials will break ground at Innovation Center South, a 1.6-million-square-foot mixed use development in Herndon.

The development will be located adjacent to the Innovation Center Metro Station and the 2,100-space parking garage built by the county at Route 28 and the Dulles Toll Road.

Phase 2 of the Silver Line will run from Reston’s Wiehle Avenue to Loudoun County, with stops at Reston Town Center, Herndon, Innovation Center, Dulles International Airport and Ashburn. It is expected to be completed in 2019.

This groundbreaking will make the start of construction on common infrastructure at the 15-acre site, including stormwater management, new roads, street lights, and landscaping.

When complete, the development will include a 190-room hotel; 104,000 square feet of retail; 501,000 square feet of office; and about 1,005 apartments spread across seven buildings.

In July of 2014, shortly after Phase 1 of the Silver Line opened, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a contract for the $57 million garage.

Fairfax County committed to building the garage as part of the agreement reached three years ago to pay for the Silver Line’s second phase. In November, the county approved a $115 million bond sale that will help pay for the garage, as well as parking at the Herndon station.

Innovation Center is being built as part of a partnership between Rock Engineering Company and Nugget Joint Venture.

The land for Innovation Center is currently undeveloped. The county agreed to share the cost for common infrastructure needed on the 14.68-acre site, along with a pocket park and a one-acre, landscaped plaza surrounding the entrance to the Metro station. The pocket park will be used to filter and retain stormwater from the entire site.

Fairfax County Fire RescueFairfax County Fire Rescue says a electrical malfunction led to a fire that caused major damage to a commercial high rise building onTuesday.

Units were called to 13820 Sunrise Valley Dr. in Herndon, near the Westin Washington Dulles, about 7:45 p.m.

Firefighters said they encountered heavy smoke coming from the lower level of the 10-story building upon arrival. Upon further investigation, firefighters found fire in the first floor “battery room.” Additionally, an outside transformer caught fire near the building.

The incident commander issues a second alarm, which brought more than 60 firefighters to the scene.

There were approximately 50 employees in the building when the fire broke out. All were able to get out of the building. There were no injuries.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room of origin and transformer with no fire extension to other parts of the building.

Firefighters said the automatic fire alarm did activate; however, a security officer called 911 after hearing an explosion. One sprinkler head did activate helping to keep the fire contained.

Damage is estimated at $2 million.

The fire has been ruled accidental. An electrical event in the control module to the uninterruptible power supply caused the fire, officials said.

David Conn, chef/managing partner of Nomad Grill & Hookah Bar, wants to make his new Herndon business the finest Southern/American/Middle Eastern restaurant and hookah bar around.

That’s because it is the only Southern/American/Middle Eastern restaurant and hookah bar around.

Conn and partners opened Nomad in early May at 137 Spring St. in Herndon, just over the border from Reston. They took over where Sphinx, another hookah bar, used to be located.

But Conn says the total decor and menu makeover is indicative of Nomad’s outlook.

“The biggest difference is we are a chef-driven place with thoughtful combinations,” said Conn. “We’ve got unique ideas and diverse ingredients.”

Take the butterbean hummus, for instance, which combines Conn’s training in Tennessee with the flavors of of North Africa. Same with the black-eyed pea felafel and the Moroccan meat loaf on the menu.

There are still strictly American favorites too. Conn says he wants to make the best burger for lunch. He is also proud of the grilled cheese sandwich with Cooper’s Sharp American cheese, which he searched for to get the flavor exactly correct, he says.

If hookah is your thing, Nomad is offering opening specials of $12 rounds, featuring more than a dozen flavors, including grape, watermelon, strawberry and mint. A special air filtration system keeps the space from getting to smokey, says Conn.

Conn took the long route to get the Nomad. A former professional musician, conductor and music professor at Cornell University, Conn worked his way through kitchens in New York City, Chicago, Savannah and Nashville before opening Kitty’s Saloon on H Street NE in Washington, D.C. last year.

Nomad owner Anise Amri also has an outpost in the H Street Corridor. Conn says Amri came into Kitty’s Saloon often, and the two decided to expand into the suburbs.

Nomad, 137 Spring St. (Sunset Park Center), is open 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Friday; 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday; 5 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. Sunday. The restaurant features a full bar.

There was no one in the restaurant when the fire broke out. The alarm company called 911 after a smoke alarm activated. There were no injuries.

Fire investigators have determined the fire was accidental and caused by an unattended pan on a hot stove.

Lenny Haskins/Credit: Las Vegas PDA Las Vegas man who pleaded guilty to prostituting teenage girls in Reston, Herndon and other parts of Northern Virginia, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, federal authorities said.

Authorities said Lenny Paul “2 Much” Haskins, 34, had been operating in Northern Virginia for nearly a decade. He pleaded guilty to sex trafficking in U.S. District Court in Alexandria in January.

The charge Haskins pleaded to took place in Herndon last summer. Authorities said in June 2014, Haskins encountered two teens at a hotel near Sacramento, Calif. The girls, ages 15 and 17, were runaways from foster care. Haskins provided marijuana and eventually recruited them to prostitute for him. Once he recruited them, Haskins performed sex acts with the victims, officials said.

In August 2014, Haskins instructed the victims to take a bus to Herndon for the purposes of being prostituted there. Haskins arranged for advertisements to be posted on the Internet site www.Backpage.com to obtain sex customers for the juveniles.

The juveniles sent prostitution proceeds to Haskins using various money transfer businesses. The Las Vegas Police Department arrested Haskins in August 2014 but he continued to call the victims and give them directions from jail, authorities said.

Authorities said Haskins frequently provided drugs to the women and girls whom he prostituted. He instructed the women and girls whom he prostituted to call him “Daddy.” Some of the women prostituted by Haskins were tattooed with Haskins’s moniker “2 Much,” according to the FBI.

The FBI said Haskins set a monetary quota that the victims whom he prostituted were required to meet each day. For example, in some places, Haskins required these women and girls to earn $1,000 per day from prostitution, and provide him with these proceeds. After Haskins was incarcerated, he continued to run his prostitution business from jail.

Haskins had faced a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. After his 40-year sentence, he will have a life term of supervised release. The court also ordered Haskins to pay $538,250 in restitution to the victims and to forfeit $738,250 to the United States.

Haskins was also arrested in Nevada in 2012 in connection with the drowning of a child. At the time he had fugitive warrants from California for assault and parole violation, Virginia for assault and prostitution charges, and Texas for larceny charges.

Earlier this week, Haskins’ girlfriend, who was located with her 3-year-old son, was arrested at the Crowne Plaza Herndon. Geidre Ruseckaite, 24, was charged by Fairfax County Police with child neglect, prostitution and keeping a bawdy place. Federal authorities also had been looking for Ruseckaite in connection with the prostitution of the 15-year-old in Herndon.
