Leidos Holdings has signed a new full-building lease for a 17-story office building Boston Properties plans to complete in Reston Town Center by early 2020.
The information technology contractor, which already has offices in Reston, will shift its headquarters to the building on 1750 President Street, according to a release by the company.
“Our new space will give us the opportunity to build on our culture and brand as a combined company, as well as be able to better tailor our working environment to meet employee needs,” wrote Leidos chairman and chief executive officer Roger Krone.
The company began an 18-month search across the region after acquiring a division of Lockheed Martin in 2016. Nearly five years ago, the company separated from SAIC and moved from McLean to RTC’s One and Two Freedom Square.
Construction on the 17Fifty building, which is the last office space to be built in the 86-acre urban core of RTC, is expected to begin in the spring.
Boston Properties’ trophy tower is designed by Shalom Baranes Associates, and will include 8,000 square feet of retail space and a four-floor below-grade parking garage.
Katie Yanushonis, vice president of Boston Properties said she is confident that new building will fit the company’s effort to retain and motivate it’s “world class employee base.”
The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Scrawl Books, an independent store that opened in late 2015, is turning a page next month.
The store is moving from its pop-up location on 11862 Market Street to 11911 Freedom Drive in mid-February as the building undergoes renovations this year.
The future site is currently being used as the leasing office for the Signature apartments, a 508-unit residential project with nine levels of underground parking.
“It is a perfect space for Scrawl Books, with room for browsing and our full schedule of author readings, book clubs, and story times,” said Rachel Wood, the bookstore’s owner.
Since November 2016, the bookstore had a pop-up shop on Market Street shared with Truffle Shots and Ella Rue. Over the last year, Scrawl Books sprawled over the entire store, according to Wood.
A grand opening and ribbon cutting is scheduled for Feb. 18. As the move takes place, the store is open at Urban Pop at Reston Station on weekdays from 4-8 p.m. and on Sundays at ArtInsights (11921 Freedom Drive). Books can also be purchased online.

Neyla Mediterranean Bistro in Reston Town Center is permanently closed, according to the restaurant’s website. A store representative was not immediately available for comment.
The restaurant was located in Georgetown prior to closing in the summer of 2014. It opened on 11898 Market St. in 2015.
The menu featured mezze with baby artichokes, roasted eggplant, stuffed grape leaves, chicken shawarma slider and middle eastern kibbeh. Main dishes included flatbreads, salads, lamp chops, a mixed grill for two, falafel and more.

M & S Grill, a restaurant on 11901 Democracy Drive, is permanently closed, according to a restaurant representative.
The restaurant closed on New Year’s Day.
A representative from the public relations firm that is handling media inquiries was not immediately available comment, but a restaurant representative said the decision to shutter was made by corporate offices.
Last week, Appalachian Spring announced plans that it also plans to close its doors in Reston Town Center. The handcrafted gifts and handmade jewelry store opened up in the town center in 1990. Ann Taylor also announced the company will not renew its lease, which expired on Dec. 31.

Ann Taylor has announced plans to close its location in Reston Town Center. In a Dec. 16 email, the company indicated it will close on Dec. 23.
It is unclear why the store is closing as the company’s corporate communications office did not respond to multiple requests for comment from Reston Now.
According to a spokesperson for Boston Properties, the store’s lease will expire on Dec. 31 and the company cannot comment on any tenant leases currently in place. The company will announce the future tenant once more information is available.
Ann Inc. is the parent company of Ann Taylor, LOFT and Lou & Grey. It has more than 1,000 stores across the country, Puerto Rico and Canada, according to its website. Ann Taylor began in 1954 and has 242 full-price and 122 outlet stores across North American, including one in Tyson’s Corner Center in McLean (8061 L Tysons Corner Center).

The annual Reston Holiday Parade came in sixth nationwide, thanks to people who voted for the country’s top 10 holiday processions in a USA Today contest, according to results released this week.
Reston’s sixth-place slot put it ahead of the Alexandra Holiday Boat Parade of Lights in Alexandria, Va. Last year, the parade in Reston ranked fourth overall.
Top honors went to Mummers Parade in Philadelphia, one of the longest running traditions in the country. The parade, which roots back to the 1800s as a celebration of the New Year, includes a colorful procession along Broad Street that features performances by comics, string bands and fancy brigades, according to USA Today.
