It looks like it might be a rainy weekend, but the good news is there are plenty of indoor activities scheduled in Reston. And forecasters say the rain isn’t going to hit until later Saturday, so there still should be a good opportunity to enjoy the outdoors too.

Here is just a sampling of what there is to do in Reston and the surrounding area this weekend:

• The Reduced Shakespeare Company will perform “Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play” tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m. at Reston Community Center’s CenterStage (2310 Colts Neck Road). Tickets are $25 for Reston residents and $50 for non-residents.
• Reston Association’s Habitat Heroes program will participate in an Earth Day activity Saturday, from 10 a.m. to noon. They will be removing invasive species and planting native species to help the long-term restoration project at the Wainwright Recreation Area.
• Herndon High School (700 Bennett St.) will present “Guys and Dolls” for three performances this weekend: tonight and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and a 2 p.m. Sunday matinee. Tickets are $15.
• The opening reception for “Radcliffe Bailey: The Great Dismal Swamp” at Greater Reston Arts Center (12001 Market St.) is 5-7 p.m. Saturday. The exhibit will be on display through August.
• Saturday is Record Store Day, and there will be plenty of offers to mark the day at Right On Records (731 Elden St., Herndon).
• The Reston-Herndon Little League Opening Day parade and celebration is Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at Reston Town Center. The Washington Nationals’ Racing Presidents will participate as part of the league’s new partnership with the Nats.
• Mayflowers Floral Studio (11959 Market St.) will host classes in tulip selection, arranging and care this Saturday and next, from 2-3:30 p.m. each day.
• Other events at Reston Town Center this weekend will include live music at World of Beer (1888 Explorer St.) tonight and Saturday, Earth Day celebrations Saturday from 11 a.m to 3 p.m. at Greater Reston Arts Center and in Town Square Park, and exercise in the pavilion Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon.
• “First Blooms” by artist Dorothy Donahey remains on exhibit at Reston Art Gallery and Studios (11400 Washington Plaza W.), which is open from noon to 5 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.
• The art exhibit “A Respite from Chaos” will remain on display at Reston Community Center’s Jo Ann Rose Gallery (1609 Washington Plaza N.) through the month of April.
• The Reston Tour d’Art, a guided bicycle tour of the community’s outdoor art, is slated for Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m., beginning at the Lake Newport tennis courts (11452 Baron Cameron Ave.). The event is free, but registration is required.
• NextStop Theatre Company (269 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon) is performing “Boeing, Boeing,” and the show has been extended through May 7. Performances this weekend are tonight and Saturday at 8 p.m., along with 2 p.m. matinees Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $35-$55.
• The Blue Street Blues Band will perform tonight from 7-10 p.m. at Café Montemarte (1625 Washington Plaza N.).
• Award-winning author Hena Khan will be reading from her new book, “Amina’s Voice,” from 2-3:30 p.m. Sunday at Scrawl Books (11862 Market St.)
• Kalypso’s (1617 Washington Plaza N.) will have live music tonight, 9:30 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., from Sista Pat & One Vibe. DJ Kram will play Top 40 hits Saturday night.
• Vinafera Wine Bar and Bistro (11750 Sunrise Valley Drive) has live music from 7-10 p.m. every Friday and Saturday night in April. In addition, legendary local DJ Cerphe Colwell will be signing copies of his new book from 3-5 p.m. Saturday.

The South Lakes Seahawks will be well-represented at the conference championship next month after performances in recent days.

At the Northern Virginia Invitational, April 7-8, the following team members hit qualifying marks for postseason competition:

• 400 meters: John Eggeman (junior)
• 3,200 meters: Marissa Banga (freshman), Sean Casey (junior), Isabelle Gulgert (sophomore) and Peter Sepulveda (senior)
• 300-meter hurdles: Abby Wickman (senior)
• discus: Jamie Richard (junior)
• pole vault: Megan Allison (junior) and Abby Wickman (senior)
• shot put: Madie Evans (junior) and Jessica Rice (senior)

Participating at the Arcadia Invitational in California, the sprint medley relay team — Hannah Waller (freshman), Cara Hutson (sophomore), Olivia Beckner (junior) and Devyn Jones (senior) — set a school-record time of 4 minutes, 6.84 seconds. Jones also hit state-qualifying times in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Waller did so in 100 and 200 meters.

Also in California, Timiebi Ogobri (senior) ran a state-qualifying time in the 100 meters; while Sophie Halkett (sophomore) and Alex Loukili (junior) both qualified in the 800 meters.

At their final event during spring break, last Thursday, more SLHS athletes qualified at the Leslie Sherman Memorial Invitational.

Today’s Boston Marathon field included numerous local runners.

According to the entry list for the 121st annual event, the following individuals from Reston were registered for the race: William D’Agostino, Emmett Delaney, Marcy Foster, Lisa Johnston, Vince Kelley, Mark Langham, Deedee Loughran, Bin Mu, Douglas Pepelko, Sherri Ranney, Catherine Reen, Bob Reinhold, Rebecca Scott, Jie Zheng and Malissa Zimmerman.

In addition, three runners from Herndon — Pei Han, Mckell Poulton and Kiley Trennepohl — are listed among the registrants.

The men’s and women’s marathon winners, respectively, were Geoffrey Kirui (2 hours, 9 minutes, 37 seconds) and Edna Kiplagat (2 hours, 21 minutes, 52 seconds), both of Kenya.

Reston Rotary Ball Set for April 22 — The annual “Blackbeard’s Ball” event next weekend at Hidden Creek Country Club will benefit the Lake Thoreau Project by the South Lakes High School STEAM team, as well as the nonprofit organization Stop Hunger Now. [Reston Rotary/Facebook]

Men Who Killed SLHS Grad in Israel Charged in US — Two Palestinian men already serving life sentences in an Israeli prison for killing Kristine Luken, a 1984 South Lakes High School graduate, in 2010 have now also been charged with murder by U.S. prosecutors. [Washington Post]

Seahawks Lacrosse Team Has Strong Start — There were no games this week because of Spring Break, but the lacrosse team at South Lakes High School will come back next week looking to improve on their 5-1 early-season record. [South Lakes Athletics]

Arrest Made in Anti-Semitic Graffiti Incidents in Fairfax County — A 20-year-old Annandale man has been charged with committing the vandalism, called “hate-motivated” by police, earlier this week. [Fairfax County Police Department]

The Washington Capitals have big expectations this playoff season, which starts tonight at the Verizon Center with Game 1 of the team’s opening-round series.

Some local Capitals fans had the opportunity for even more excitement Thursday morning, however, as Reston was one of eight locations in the DC Metro area the Capitals chose for a giveaway contest.

At each location, five bobblehead figures of Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby were hidden. Hints were provided on the Capitals’ social media accounts, and the fans who found the hidden figures were rewarded with prizes including signed memorabilia and game tickets.

The five bobbleheads in Reston were hidden at Reston Town Center. The first to be found — which was the first of all 40 to be tracked down — was located in the Town Center pavilion by Jared Puleo just after 9 a.m.

“I walked in and showed everybody in my office,” said Puleo, a Purcellville resident who works at software company Daon. “I was stoked.”

Puleo, who said he will be attending tonight’s game against the Toronto Maple Leafs, won a signed puck from the team.

Other hides within the Town Center, according to hints posted by the Capitals, included ones at Fountain Square and within the “A Bird in the Hand” public art installation at Greater Reston Arts Center. That’s where Sheena Dunn of Alexandria, who works at an engineering company off Sunrise Valley Drive, was searching late Thursday morning — but the prize had already been claimed.

“I went to my boss and said it was in Reston Town Center, and he said ‘OK, go!'” said Dunn, a Caps season-ticket holder who said she would also be in attendance for tonight’s game. “It looks like they’re all gone, but it was fun.”

Both Puleo and Dunn said they have tempered optimism for the team during the playoffs. The Capitals, who have never won a Stanley Cup, won the Presidents’ Trophy as the National Hockey League’s best regular-season team this year.

“I’m nervous, as Caps fans always are this time of year,” Puleo said. “But I’m excited and I’m hoping for the best.”

Major League Baseball arrives for 2017 on Monday, with the hometown Washington Nationals hosting the Miami Marlins for a season-opening matinee.

Those who take the Metro down to Nationals Park for the game will be in for an added treat, as Reston Station at Wiehle-Reston East will be hosting a baseball celebration from 10 a.m. to noon. The fun will include live music, a cornhole competition, hot dogs and more. In addition, the first 50 riders who show their ticket stubs will get free parking passes for the station’s ParkX.

The Nationals will continue the series against the Marlins with a game Wednesday night. The festivities at Reston Station that evening will take place from 4:30-6:30 p.m.

Some Work on Phase 1 of Silver Line Project Ongoing — The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority says some work connected to the first phase of the Silver Line still needs to be completed. Penn led by 21 points early in the fourth quarter; however, Texas A&M staged the biggest comeback in women’s tournament history and came out victorious, 63-61. Students Named to All-State Band, Orchestra — The All-Virginia High School Band and Orchestra will both perform April 8 in Manassas. Accident Reported on Dulles Access Road — An accident was reported at about 8:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of the Dulles Access Road, in the area of Hunter Mill Road.

Reston Hospital Center Using New Breast Cancer Technology — A new device is being used by surgeons at the hospital to precisely localize small tumors and direct their removal during surgery. Dozens of Guns Stolen from Chantilly Store — Three suspects were caught on video surveillance stealing 35 guns from 50 West Armory on Metrotech Drive on Saturday. More Speak Out Against Paid Parking — The owner of Obi Sushi says sales are down about a third since Boston Properties initiated paid parking at Reston Town Center. Retired Detective’s Story Gains Attention — As we reported, retired Fairfax County Police Department detective Bruce Wiley took care of a 17-year-old intruder at his Beaver Circle home last week using no more than a flashlight and a baton. SLHS Baseball Star Continues His Success — Jared Abelson, a 2015 South Lakes High School graduate, picked up two hits for Macalester College in a game over the weekend against Marian University in the Tucson Invitational. Possibly Rabid Fox Bites Woman, Cat — Animal Protection Police officers responded Tuesday to two different scenes in Great Falls where a fox had gone on the attack. A 71-year-old woman suffered serious injuries after being bitten “multiple times” around 3 p.m. in the 600 block of Ad Hoc Road; about an hour later and about three miles away, a 54-year-old woman fought off a fox that had bitten her cat. The fox believed to have been involved in both incidents was euthanized and is being tested for rabies. [Fairfax County Police Department]

Metro Station Work to Affect Toll Road Traffic — Eastbound traffic on the Dulles Airport Access Highway will be diverted onto the Toll Road on Saturday night into Sunday morning.
