After a successful pop-up venture at Lake Anne Plaza, a shop combining the worlds of pottery and custard will open a permanent location there.
Kiln & Co. set up at the former home of Lakeside Pharmacy last summer. According to a press release, it “immediately became a community favorite.” It plans to open for good Saturday, in conjunction with Founder’s Day festivities at the plaza, at 1631 Washington Plaza N., next to Small Change Consignment.
The new location of Kiln & Co. is the former home of children’s store Baby Blossom, which closed last year. Company owner Sarah Selvaraj has purchased the space.
The Vienna-based business offers paint-your-own pottery, sculpture, wheel and handbuilding work through a variety of classes, workshops and summer camps. And in addition to its “Kustard & Co.” custard, it sells cakes, shakes and other treats.
To celebrate, the first 50 people in line at 10 a.m. Saturday will receive a free “Krazy Kustard Shake” and a chance to win free shakes for a year. All kids 12 and under will receive an ice cream scoop bowl they can paint on site, which they will be able to later bring back for $2 refills. And any kids who are painting pottery Saturday will receive a free kid’s scoop.

Pressed for time? There are no shortages of apps and services that come to you. You can get a meal in a box, an Uber ride with the click of a finger, and pretty much anything at any time within the hour on Amazon Prime Now.
Reston has a new service: Gas-e, which will skip you a trip to the gas station.
Gas-e is a new app-directed service now available here, the first place in what the company hopes will be several spots in Northern Virginia, says Thomas Monson, a founder of the company.
Gas-e works like this: Users park their car and request a fill up via the app, which can be downloaded from iTunes or Google Play. They choose what kind of gas they prefer (regular unleaded, premium, etc.). Gas-e then delivers gas directly into their cars (clients need to leave the gas door popped open) and charges the credit card on file.
Users get a text when the truck is on its way and another one when the car’s tank is filled. Prices are comparable to those at nearby gas stations.
Reston Now had a few questions for Monson. Here’s what he had to say:
Reston Now: How did you get the idea for Gas-e?
Thomas Monson: The idea for gas-e came one day at a gas station watching a mother manage two screaming kids in the back seat. I felt like there had to be a way to help make her day run a bit smooth.
The car that she was driving sits idle for more 90 percent of the day, so why fill it up during the busiest time of her day? We can do this during the work day or at night. Thus, offering the highest level of convenience and flexibility in achieving an uninterrupted commute. Now if we could only do something about DC traffic. Read More
Reston has a new coffee spot and Reston Station has its first full-time retailer.
The Reston Station Starbucks opened on Friday in the ground floor of Comstock’s BLVD apartments.
While Reston Station has Urban Pop, a series of pop-up shops along the plaza at Wiehle-Reston East, this is the first permanent retailer there.
This Starbucks location (there are seven in Reston, not counting inside Target and Safeway) is quite large, with counter seating overlooking the plaza, a meeting nook, couch space and other work areas.
Founding Farmers is still on track to open a restaurant in the space in the next building. Founding Farmers signed a lease last fall, and the sign in the window says “coming late 2016.” However, no interior work has started, so it likely won’t meet that deadline.
Meanwhile, there will be validated parking for Starbucks customers. Visitors who park in the ParkX Garage (first left off of Reston Station Boulevard), then park in retail spaces (take a right up the ramp, take parking ticket and go straight ahead) will get two hours free, Comstock says.
Have you seen “Sir George?”
This 8-week-old Pit Bull/Yorkie puppy was stolen from the Reston Petsmart on Saturday, according to Wolf Trap Animal Rescue.
The rescue group was holding an adoption event at the store at the Spectrum Saturday afternoon as part of National Adoption Weekend.
Sir George has black fur with a white chest.
The rescue group says they have reported the puppy heist to Fairfax County Police and the suspects could face felony charges if the dog is not returned in the next 24 hours.
If you have seen Sir George, text or call 703-638-2567 or email [email protected].

The locally owned men’s clothing store recently moved from 11904 Market St. to 11921 Freedom Dr. That location is basically in the same building, but facing Freedom Drive rather than the Mercury Fountain.
The ribbon-cutting event is on Friday, Sept 23, from 1 to 3 p.m.
There will be a display of exotic cars and new vehicles from Acura on display, followed by an in-store wine tasting from Tarara Winery from 6 to 8 p.m.
Davelle will also be offering a special gift-with-purchase throughout the weekend.
Reston has a new eatery located in an unlikely spot. Laredo Taco Company is now open inside the convenience store at the Exxon Station at 11854 Sunrise Valley Dr.
This is Laredo Taco’s first Reston location as the Texas-based company makes a push into the Northern Virginia market.
Laredo Taco is a popular chain of fast casual Mexican restaurants found inside 480 Stripes convenience stores in Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico.
Laredo Taco bills itself as “fast, fun, friendly and delicious,” offering “generous portions of your favorite Mexican food, handmade with the freshest ingredients every day.”
On Friday morning, staffers were busy making homemade tortillas to fill with eggs and other breakfast fillings. Breakfast is available from 7 to 10:30 a.m.; Lunch and dinner are available from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Laredo Taco Company has made a push towards the East Coast recently, opening locations in gas stations in Ashburn and in Pennsylvania.
Salon Nordine & Day Spa will close its doors on Saturday, but a new tenant is ready to take over the space.
Charles Schwab will move its offices from 11874 Market Street to the two-floor space at 11955 Freedom Dr.
The former salon space is on the ground floor of one of Reston Town Center’s large office towers, making it a good fit for a financial services offices. Its doors also face Freedom Drive and two of Reston Town Center’s parking garages, making it more accessible for customers than the current office, in a storefront on Market Street.
Charles Schwab has filed permits with Fairfax County for interior changes, but no moving date has been announced.
Bebe, a woman’s clothing store, quietly closed its doors at 11957 Market St. at Reston Town Center last week.
The store, which had been located at Reston Town Center since the South of Market addition was built in 2008, is completely shuttered, with its fixtures, merchandise and sign removed.
Need something from a Bebe store? Visit them online or at nearby locations at Fair Oaks Mall or Tysons Corner Center.
A new leaseholder for the property has not yet been announced.
Salon Nordine & Day Spa, a high-end beauty salon at Reston Town Center, will close its doors on Sept. 10, employees said.
The salon has been located in a two-story space at 11955 Freedom Dr. for about 15 years.
Many of the stylists have already departed for other salons, and the once-bustling location was empty over the weekend. A salon spokesman said regular customers should have been contacted by their stylist as to where they would be relocating.
The Reston location’s merchandise and fixtures are being moved to Salon Nordine’s other locations in Fairfax and Gainesville.
There have been no permits filed yet for a new business to take over the space.

Which brings us to this weekend’s discussion: Where to go for a drink?
While “technically” there are no standalone bars according to Virginia law (only restaurants that serve alcohol), there are places in Reston, Herndon and nearby areas that are more popular for cocktails/beer/wine than for their meals.
Weekend parking will remain free at town center, so many drinking spots will see see do a brisk business. But what about a weekday drink? “Monday Night Football” viewing? Let us know where you will grab a pint if you want to park for free come September.
