Bank robbery at Sun Trust inside Hunters Woods Safeway/Credit: Tim Boone

Fairfax County Police are searching for a suspect who robbed the Sun Trust Branch inside a crowded Safeway store on Monday afternoon.

The man got away from Safeway at Hunters Woods Village Center with an undisclosed amount of money just after 5 p.m. — during the busy late afternoon shopping time, said FCPD public information officer Don Gotthardt.

Police cars descended on the shopping center, as did the FCPD helicopter as it searched for the suspect by air.

The suspect was described as a black man, in his mid-20s, wearing a red jacket with black stripes.

This is the third Reston bank robbery in the last month.

Last week, the Wells Fargo branch at Reston Town Center was robbed. The suspect told the teller he has a weapon and demanded money. In late November, the Presidential Bank at Reston Parkway and Baron Cameron was robbed.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation says bank robberies rise in December. The FBI says 17 bank robberies occurred in Northern Virginia in December 2013. Thirteen of suspects in the incidents were apprehended.

Police are investigating to see whether the Hunters Woods robbery is related to the other Reston robberies.

Fairfax County Police Fairfax County Police are reminding residents to watch their valuable holiday packages this month.

Police say there has already been an uptick of thefts so far this month. The agency’s online reporting system is experiencing increased reports on a wide variety of doorstep thefts. From electronics to shoes to toys and suitcases, no unattended package should be deemed “safe.”

Police suggest residents make arrangements to have packages delivered to a place where people must sign for them, such as work, a neighbor’s home or the post office if you are unable to be home.

Police are also suggesting neighbors to help watch out for each other; report any suspicious vehicles or behavior to police. More people are ordering gifts online; more packages are being delivered and the risk has risen, police said.

If your packages have been stolen, you can report the theft to police through the county’s Citizen Reporting System (CRS).

Police said the suspects were allegedly entering vehicles in the pre-dawn hours, rifling through items and taking credit cards, cash and other items of value. In some cases, garage door openers may have been taken and used to enter homes.

Nicholas McCloud/Credit: FCPD All three suspects are from the Herndon area police said. They have arrested Ezekiel Pajibo, 25,; Marion Pajibo, 18;  and Nicholas McCloud, 22.

From FCPD:

Typically, stolen credit cards were used at local stores, such as Wal-Mart and Target to make purchases. Police were alerted and worked closely with store security personnel to identify evidence relating to the crimes through video.

After uncovering positive identification on possible suspects, detectives continued their comprehensive investigation and three were charged on Dec. 1 and 5; resulting in a total of over a dozen charges. The investigation is ongoing.

During the holiday season, and at all times, police remind residents to lock their car doors. Vehicle larcenies are not rare and police want residents to take all reasonable precautions to prevent from becoming victimized during the busy holiday season. Make sure to check online credit card statements frequently to ensure your cards haven’t been stolen or compromised.

Fairfax County Police carFairfax County Police said they have identified a suspect in the Nov 16 hit-and-run accident in Reston that left a woman severely injured.

“A suspect, and suspect vehicle, have been identified relating to the hit and run investigation on Reston Parkway,” Public Information Officer Lucy Caldwell said yesterday. No one has been charged, she added.

Police had been looking for a red sedan that fled the scene.

The accident occurred about 6:30 p.m.on Reston Parkway near the Spectrum Center, where the victim had been shopping, family members said.

The victim, a woman, was struck when she was crossing Reston Parkway with her teenage daughter, police said.

Witnesses said the victims were not walking in a crosswalk. Groceries were spilled all over the road, which was briefly closed.

There is no crosswalk at that location, though the accident led to many comments by readers calling for one on the previous Reston Now story.

The woman was transported to a hospital, where she had surgery for organ damage, as well as a fractured right leg and broken and dislocated elbow. The child was not injured.

Meanwhile, Fairfax County Police are stepping up awareness of pedestrian safety. They say 400 pedestrians have been injured in the county in the last three years. Read more about FCPD’s campaign on the department’s blog.

A man who was banned from a Reston hotel was arrested by Fairfax County Police on Saturday after trespassing and holding a woman against her will, Fairfax County Police said.

Police said the 36-year-old man, who lives at no fixed address, entered the hotel lobby about 9:56 p.m. and was denied a room due to a trespass ban placed by the property owner at Extended Stay America.

Police say the man then entered a guest’s room without consent, where he held a woman against her will.
